WPS natural gas presentations showcase safety, science to students
Green Bay — Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is taking a hands-on approach to help students across northeast and north central Wisconsin learn about natural gas by visiting schools and providing presentations this month.
WPS natural gas mechanics will use special tools and displays to help students understand what natural gas is, how it reaches homes and businesses, and how to use it safely. These presentations, part of WPS' ongoing commitment to safety, have educated thousands of students over the years.
Safety precautions highlighted
Important safety tips provided to students during the presentations include:
- Calling 811 before starting any digging.
- Recognizing the presence of carbon monoxide, a dangerous gas created by improper burning of natural gas.
- Understanding ways to stay safe if a natural gas leak occurs.
Members of the media are welcome to cover a natural gas safety presentation at a participating school this month. Please notify WPS and the participating school if you want to cover a presentation. To receive a list of presentations and the schools where they will take place, members of the media should contact WPS Media Relations.
