Don't go viral: WPS cautioning children, parents about dangers of 'Outlet Challenge'

Green Bay — With a new, risky Internet dare spreading on social media, Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is demonstrating the dangers of the ‘Outlet Challenge’ to help everyone stay safe.

Highly-trained WPS staff recently re-created this stunt, but only were able to perform it by taking multiple safety precautions in a controlled environment. To avoid injury, protective equipment such as flame-resistant clothing and specialized rubber gloves had to be used.

Attempting this stunt could damage a building's electrical system, start a fire or cause serious injury. Never put any object or item into an outlet unless it is an electrical plug.

Parents can help children use electricity safely by sharing these precautions.
